Masters of Code: Lisa Heffernan
Welcome back to another edition of Masters of Code! Today, I’d like to introduce you to Lisa Heffernan, a Maths Teacher turned Junior Software Engineer. Lisa graduated from Command Shift in 2022, and we recently chatted all about her experience at Command Shift; life at the BBC; and her advice about getting into the tech industry. Here’s what she had to say…
What were you doing before Command Shift?
I was a Maths Teacher before Command Shift. Within 2 months of graduating I was offered a job with the BBC. I’m now a Junior Software Engineer and loving every second of it.
How has the course set you up for your job?
Everything I used in the job application process was learned from Command Shift. You are taught different technologies and principles that set you up for your new career. My favourite part was the group project at the end of the course. Working with my peers to develop and create an app from scratch was a great experience.
What would you say to someone who’s on the fence about joining the course?
If you are thinking of joining Command Shift then I would highly recommend it. My only regret is not doing it sooner.
Why did you choose Command Shift over other bootcamps and coding schools?
I chose Command Shift because I wanted a course where I would be part of a community with like minded people. Having the on hand support of the tutors and career advice really appealed to me.
